Establishing "Homes of Love" For Special People With Special Needs....
A letter from our Executive Director
InDwellings, Inc. is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that's working to bring housing options to the Upstate for individuals with developmental disabilities. We're actively working with our architects and the State to finalize renovation plans for our first home. This process is both exciting and tedious. It's very important to us to do this correctly the first time. We're incredibly grateful for the hard work of the staff at Bill Pelham, LLC, as they've taken this project on as a pro bono service. Our progress to date is due largely to their hard work.
However, we recognize that to many it seems as if we will never open. Although it's been a long time coming, with a few false starts, we're now moving forward. We've identified two of the four ladies who will be our first residents, and are working with their families to make the transition successful. They're lovely women we hope will thrive in this new setting, and they're looking forward to their new home.
As always, we're working to be very good stewards of the time, talent, and treasure people have entrusted to us. While we await the necessary approvals, we've been laying the ground work to ensure that our ladies will be able to engage in our community. Participation in Greenville Collaborative Action Network (Greenville CAN) has enabled us to develop those community relationships that will help us access extended services, and bridge service gaps. This dynamic network of more than 70 providers, funders, self-advocates, and caregivers is actively working to foster true inclusivity in Greenville.
With respect to treasure specifically, we continue to spend judiciously, and to seek fundraising opportunities. To that end we're hosting HOMECOMING 2016 at Larkin’s Sawmill on Friday, September 16. We're hoping to raise funds to secure our financial operating position, in anticipation of a delay in compensation when we begin billing for services. This gala evening will feature dancing to the live music of Hot As A Pepper, heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer/wine, and auctions. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Sponsorship opportunities are available. All proceeds of the evening (after expenses) benefit InDwellings. Please consider supporting this very important evening.
Lastly, thank you for your support – past, present, and future. It's helping keep hope alive for families in the Upstate.
